This year's Pi Mu Epsilon induction ceremony was held on Friday April 25, 2008. The ceremony was followed by a talk by Dr. Stephen B. Maurer, Professor of Mathematics at Swarthmore College. The title of Dr. Maurer's talk was:

Linear Algebra, Matroids and Greed: You can do a fair amount of linear algebra without the algebra! You get the theory of matroids, (matrix-like objects). In this context, additional questions suggest themselves, and one of them leads to an answer to "When does greed pay?"
